2014 Kia Soul in Union City
The new Soul has improved in leaps and bounds for 2014, and Kia of Union City is ready to give you the test drive to prove it! The 2014 Kia Soul makes improvements in several different areas, including vehicle handling and ride.
Sizing it Up
The first difference you might notice are related to the measurements of the 2014 Soul. Both wheelbase and vehicle length have increased slightly (0.8 inches), and vehicle width also increased marginally (0.6 inches). The overall height of the Soul is down 0.4 inches due to a cut in ground clearance, giving it a more ‘planted’ look. The overall weight of the Soul increased slightly, but this is due to the use of more high strength steel during construction.
Soul Survivor
Upon initial glance it may be difficult to see the changes made to the 2014 Kia Soul, so we recommend a side-by-side comparison. The new lower fascia and fog lamps, a design that is replicated with the reflectors in the rear, are two of the more noticeably changes on the outside of the vehicle. The rear hatch area is noticeably larger and the design of the rear of the vehicle in general gives the 2014 version of the Soul a trendier look. While the designers at Kia definitely wanted the exterior of the 2014 Soul to have a different style than its predecessors, it’s hard to fault them for keeping a lot of the look that led to the sale of over 112,000 units last year!
Inside the Soul
If the changes to the exterior of the 2014 Soul didn’t necessarily stand out to you, wait until you get inside of one! The look and feel of the interior is much improved, giving the occupants a feeling of comfort not found in previous versions. Available features include heated and cooled leather seats, panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and an eight-inch touchscreen that contains the new Android-based navigation. The features are great, but the overall look of the interior is what we found most surprising. The positioning or the air conditioning vents and speaker grilles, combined with the new design of the door panels, give the 2014 Soul a more ‘grown-up’ look.
Heart of the Soul
Buyers still can choose between the 1.6-liter and the 2.0-liter engines, both of which have been adjusted to generate more low-end torque. The six-speed manual and conventional automatic transmissions are carried over, although their gearing has been reconfigured to take advantage of the remapped torque curves. The newly designed suspension consists of Macpherson struts up front and a torsion beam out back. Twin-tube shocks, bigger and better bushings and a relocated front stabilizer bar and steering box help to improve braking and steering. With the new suspension, the 2014 Kia Soul makes major improvements in both ride and handling.
